In 1946, under the impetus of the Savoie département, the town of Saint-Bon agreed to sell the part of its land needed to build a new winter sports resort in the Alps. Since then, the resort has permanently changed and structured itself through the building of major facilities such as the Altiport, the Croisette, Aquamotion ...
From snow classes to international guests and celebrities, many holidaymakers come to Courchevel to enjoy the benefits of the mountain and the joys of skiing in a privileged setting. Especially since the resort’s professionals have always done all they could to satisfy all categories of customer ...
From its beginnings, Courchevel has been a location for experimentation and innovation. Emile Allais, the resort’s technical and sports director from 1954 to 1964, developed the idea of the groomed and maintained ski area for the comfort of skiers. Courchevel owes him slope quality that is still recognised and appreciated !
Courchevel's cultural reputation owes much to the International Cultural Action in the Mountains Foundation (FACIM) created by Gilles de La Rocque in 1970. Today, the auditorium still hosts many talented musicians, and besides music, art has also found its place in the resort and on the ski slopes with prestigious outdoor exhibitions.
Often settled for generations, the inhabitants of Courchevel are united by their love of the mountains and their land. From the picturesque streets to the beaufort cheese of Tarines via the traditional village festivals, the resort defends and preserves its heritage and its mountain values.
The mountain is a playing field available for different snow and ice sports, but also in summer for hiking, climbing or mountain biking. Thanks to major events such as the 1992 Olympic Games, the Women's Alpine Skiing and Ski Jumping World Cup, the Tour de France ..., the Courchevel’s sporting tradition continues !
